DunceLab — Accessibility Statement

Last updated: 2026-06-24

Swrl LLC is committed to making DunceLab usable by as many learners as possible, including people who use assistive technology such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, and keyboard-only navigation. DunceLab exists to help under-resourced students learn STEM, and that mission only works if the app is open to everyone.

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, and we treat that standard as our target for the app, the website, and our published documents. We are honest below about where we meet it and where we are still working.

What we've done

Known limitations

We want to be straight with you about the parts that are not there yet.

The simulations themselves. The heart of DunceLab is a set of interactive, canvas-rendered physics simulations — live pictures that change as you drag a control. Visual, real-time simulations are inherently difficult to convey fully through a screen reader, and this is the hardest accessibility problem the app has. Today, a screen-reader user can read each simulation's title, objective, live equation, and explanation, but the moving canvas and its on-screen meter readings are not yet announced. We do not claim full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance for the simulation canvas itself.

What we are working on. We are improving the simulations from the shared code that powers all of them, so the fixes reach every simulation at once. Specifically, we are working to:

Pinch-to-zoom on the app surface. On some touch devices, page zoom is restricted on the main app surface because the feed uses swipe gestures. We are correcting this so that low-vision users can enlarge content, while keeping the swipe feed working. In the meantime, your device's system-level magnification and font-size settings still apply, and the marketing site, Privacy Policy, and Terms pages already allow zoom.

Need help, or hit a barrier?

If any part of DunceLab is hard to use, or you need information or a feature in a different way, we want to hear from you and we will work with you on an alternative.

We aim to acknowledge accessibility messages within 5 business days and to work with you on a fix or a workaround. Feedback that helps us improve is genuinely welcome — much of how we know what to fix comes from people telling us.

Scope and review

This statement covers the DunceLab web app and PWA at duncelab.com and the iOS and Android apps that wrap the same web experience. It does not cover third-party services we link to (for example, the payment pages hosted by Stripe), which are governed by their own providers' accessibility practices.

We review this statement as the app changes and as our accessibility work progresses. It was last reviewed on 2026-06-24.
